How may a child
meet with
the counselor?

 

 

By referral from parents/guard­ ians,
teachers, principal; or
by the child's own request

 

Through regularly scheduled grade-level groups

What does the school counselor do?


Works as part of a team with parents, teachers principal, and others in the school community

Meets with children individually and/or in groups

Serves as a bridge to community resources

Teaches children the skills to:

- Respect self and others

- Get along with others

- Connect choices and consequences

- Solve problems

- Handle conflict in an appropriate manner

- Foster academic success and career awareness

Helps children (and families) cope with stressful life situations

Provides consultation to fami­ lies and the school community about specific concerns
