Goals or Purpose:
Physical Education class programs are provided for all students which promote fitness through practice and instruction in skills and techniques. Individuals are encouraged to develop physically to the extent of their abilities. Students are encouraged to maintain a healthy level of fitness throughout their lifetime.
Rules and Procedures:
Each student must dress and participate in each class.

Gym attire -- sneakers, gym shorts or sweat pants, t-shirt or sweatshirt

*no required specific gym uniform

Grading System:

Pass / Fail based on participation

Students are allowed one miss per quarter. Second miss is a failure.

Excused misses must have a note from the parent.

Physical Education Activities:

Soccer, softball, archery, flag football, lacrosse, hockey, basketball, volleyball, Indoor soccer, speedball, wiffleball, scooters, battleball, kickball, ultimate Frisbee, mile run

Notes for Parents :
Students must have a note from the parent on the day of physical education class to be excused.

Health First Aid   
Grade 10

Goals or Purpose
Each student will become certified in Adult CPR and Standard First Aid
Rules and Procedures

Mrs. Hower is American Red Cross Instructor certified therefore each student will be certified by the

American Red Cross upon successful completion of the course requirements.

Requirements for Certification :

attendance and participation in class

Successful completion of the following skills on a mannequin --

Rescue breathing,
Unconscious choking,
CPR
Demonstration of conscious choking on partner
80% on American Red Cross Adult CPR test

Successful completion of Standard First Aid skills -- Pressure bandage
splint -- forearm, ankle, leg
80% on American Red Cross Standard First Aid Test

Grading System :
90% of grade based on four written tests
5% of grade based on skills completion
5% of grade based on class participation
Notes for Parents:

This course is taken for one quarter, four days per week. During this quarter the students do not have Physical education.

The American Red Cross does not charge the students for taking this course and lets Lebanon Catholic

Use all materials free of charge. Donations to the Red Cross are appreciated.

Unit 1 Skeletal and Muscular Systems (3 weeks)
Unit 2 Cardiovascular and Respiratory Systems (3 weeks)
Unit 3 Fitness, Exercise, and Lifelong Activity (2 weeks)
Unit 4 Nutrition ( 1 week)
Unit 5 Tobacco (2 weeks)
Unit 6 Alcohol (2 weeks)

  • Alcoholism and Family (1 week)

Guidance Counselor presentation
Unit 7 Drugs (2 weeks)
Unit 8 Aids (1 week)

Goals or Purpose
Students will learn to assess and evaluate their health and health behaviors by studying the body’s systems. Students will learn the harmful effects of tobacco, alcohol and drugs on the body’s systems. Students will learn refusal, negotiation and collaboration skills to avoid potentially harmful situations. The course will emphasize positive health choices.
Grading System :

85% Tests (quiz average = 1 test)

10% report / project

5% class participation

Notes for Parents:

Health in the 8 th grade is a semester course (18 weeks). Students will receive 2 quarter grades and a final grade. There is no exam.
