Our first two weeks of school have been busy with practicing routines
and adjusting to the busy schedules we have as fourth graders. Most of the students are now comfortable with this new schedule.

Social Studies

In social studies we are currently working
on the northeast states.  
We are briefly discussing the role played
by the northeast states in the history of
our country.  

We will also be working on the map skill
of using scales on maps
to determine the distances between cities.  
  Social studies also includes current news awareness and cultural and geography
awareness.  
We visit a country daily via the internet and
learn about its culture and location.

Math

In fourth grade math we are working on
division of large numbers with one
digit divisors.  We are also continuing to
work on problem solving and math
fact drills.  Our next unit will be telling time
to the minute and elapsed
time.

 

Word of the Week

Please ask your student about the Word of the Week. This is a special activity
the IU teacher is working with to help improve the literacy of our students.

 

LA

In LA we are enjoying the trade book Sarah Plain and Tall.  As we continue  to
learn about parts of speech we are  working on the unit of verbs.  Our next unit
will be looking at adjectives and their use in descriptive writing.

 

 

4 Square

The fourth graders are also continuing to use the 4 square writing skills they
learned last year.  Our first piece should be completed soon.
