PRAYER

FOR A

FIFTH GRADER

Dear Lord,

I am getting ready to begin my fifth grade year. I'm excited and scared at the same time. I know that you know what I'm good at and what I'm going to need lots of help with. Help me to begin each day talking to you and end each day thanking you for all your love. Help me to be nice to my classmates, even those I don't particularly like. Allow me to see what you see in them, then I can learn to love them as you do. Most especially, help me to like myself. Help me to be patient with all the changes that are happening to me this year and to accept the things that I cannot change. Give me courage to change what needs to be changed and the wisdom to tell one from the other. And Lord, help me to enjoyall that life brings each day and to be ready for some awesome surprises. Amen.

TEST PREPARATION: PLEASE NOTE WHEN TESTS ARE GOING TO BE GIVEN. I USUALLY ALWAYS GIVE AT LEAST ONE WEEK NOTICE ABOUT TESTS. STUDENTS NEED TO STUDY A LITTLE EVERY NIGHT SO THEY WON'T HAVE TO CRAM THE NIGHT BEFORE THE TEST.

PARENTS NEED TO GO OVER THE MATERIAL WITH YOUR CHILD AND MAKE UP QUESTIONS YOU THINK MAY BE ON THE TEST. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE STUDENTS SHOW EFFORT WHEN ANSWERING QUESTIONS AND NOT GIVE JUST ANY ANSWER WHEN THEY ARE DOING ESSAY QUESTIONS. USE REVIEW PAGES FROM TEXT BOOKS TO STUDY. MOST OF THE TIME, TEST QUESTIONS ARE TAKEN FROM THESE PAGES.

ALL TESTS must be signed by parents and corrected by the student and returned to the teachers the next day. I am getting tests back that are not corrected. Students do not learn the material they have wrong on a test if it is not corrected. Parents, please check to see that your child is correcting any mistakes on their tests.

Please remember to sign the homework book under the pale yellow heading on the right hand side of the book. After some thought, I think this will be the best way to handle homework signatures.

As the first teacher of the faith for your children, I would encourage you to make sure your child gets to Mass or Church each weekend. We will be studying the Sacraments this year in Religion and it is important for them to experience our faith in action by receiving the Eucharist and going to confession often.

Please write a note or email me if you have any questions or need to discuss anything. I would like to meet with parents that could not be at back to school night at your earliest convenience.
