Information Literacy Course of Study 6th grade “Knowledge is of two kinds; we know a subject ourselves, or we know where we can find information upon it.” PURPOSE: To help motivate students to become life long learners who will acquire an understanding of a research process as well as an ability to handle information intelligently and ethically while establishing partnerships with other teachers of the students I teach. Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes: The main goal of this course is to help students to become familiar with the information resources at Lebanon Catholic Library and in cyberspace. By the end of the course, each student will be able to:
GOALS: To use the media center and other reference sources effectively and enthusiastically in order to locate, evaluate and use information to solve a problem, fulfill a need or to satisfy personal curiosity or interest keeping varied learning styles in mind. OBJECTIVES:

Students will understand the expectations and perform the procedures required of this class. Handout taken home and signed Posted expectations

Students will understand what the information literacy course is and what it encompasses.
3.
Students will understand the major project for this course. It will be one of the following: research paper, research portfolio or a slideshow based upon a topic of research. Handout with portion for signature

Students will review multiple works from the libraries collection in order to spark interest and give an overview of the many types of books available for pleasure reading.
