Information Literacy Term Project—Research Portfolio The major assignment for this quarter course is a research portfolio based on the research process, and due during the last full week of this class on (to be announced). You will use the library skills you learn during this quarter to put together and complete this project which consists of choosing a topic that interests you, and gathering sources of credible and accurate information which you might use if you were to write a term paper on this topic. We will explore multiple means of locating and evaluating information. From this knowledge you will find at least nine varied sources from which you could pull information to write a paper. Examples of these include books, encyclopedias, periodicals, websites, interviews or through asking an expert. After selecting and getting topic approval, you will create a statement of purpose which will evolve into a thesis statement. This content will be taught in class. Once your sources are located you must create a works cited page for all nine of your sources. This format will also be taught. You will select three of your best sources (they must be varied which means not all books or websites) and write three sentences of factual information you gleaned from each of these. The sentences must be in your own words and not copied or pasted from the original source. You must gather different informational facts from each of the sources. In other words, if two sources have some of the same information, you may not repeat the information as one of your factual sentences. You need to gather a total of nine sentences with different factual information. An instruction sheet will be given to you to follow in order to create the title page, which will contain the title of your paper (if you were actually writing one), your name, the course name, and the submission date. The grading rubric is attached. Please place it in your portfolio folder after you examine it since it needs to be included with the project. Use this project as a way of learning how to locate information on something of personal interest or related to another class, and as a way of preparing for any future research you may have to complete as a student. All items will be put in a folder and turned in on or before the due date. This is what your Final Project Portfolio should include: 1. Title page 2. Final topic selection with graphic organizer and refined as a result of information searches 3. Statement of purpose 4. Thesis statement 5. 3 factual sentences of important facts from each of the 3 sources. They may be on separate sheets, in which case be sure to 6.
