Welcome to Fourth Grade

Fourth grade is a challenging year with many new opportunities for your child

to grow spiritually, academically, and socially.

  • Subject matter begins to become important. Social Studies and Science become major subjects. There are tests, homework, projects and report card grades in these subjects. Textbooks, internet resources and worksheets will be used. If your child has difficulty reading, please read assignments with them.

We will be using the reporting system established by the Diocese. We are on a trimester schedule. Progress reports will be issued mid semester. The grades for fourth grade will be based on the following system.

Test scores and projects=60% Homework=20% Class work=20%

LA grades will be computed slightly different from the other subjects.

Reading=40% Writing and Grammar=25% Spelling=15%

Homework=10% Class work=10%

Science Tests and projects- 40% Homework-20%

Classwork-20% Health-20%

Assignment Books

Test dates and project dates will be listed in the calendar in the front of the assignment books.

Homework is usually assigned each day from Monday to Thursday. It is copied daily into the assignment book. Please sign the assignment book after you have reviewed the completed assignments. Missed assignments must be made up on the student’s own time. Five minutes of recess is lost for a missed assignment. Missed assignments cannot be made up during recess time.

Communication Folders

School communications are sent home via the school web site. Please check frequently and consistently.

Test papers

Test papers need to be corrected and returned to class signed the next day. One point will be added to the test score of science, social studies, and math grades for each incorrect answer that is corrected accurately.

Birthday Treats

Students may share birthday treats. These are shared with their classmates at lunch time. Lunch time on a regular schedule day is 11:10.

Expectations for all students are to do their very best. Neatness, correct spelling and grammar, and accuracy allow students to succeed in school and life.

Have a great year!
