Art Room Rules:

  1. Respect.
Show respect for the teacher, your classmates, your artwork, and the art room materials. YOU are responsible for your work and supplies. Make sure it does not become lost, damaged or stolen.
  2. Be Positive!
A positive outlook will carry you far. Negativity is contagious and will not be tolerated in the art room.
  3. Safety.
Endangering the health, safety, or welfare of others or yourself through the misuse of art room materials will not be tolerated.
  4. Leaving the room.
You must ask for permission AND sign-out before leaving the room. Do not forget to sign-in upon returning.
  5. Talking.
If you have a question, comment, or concern, you need to raise your hand. During work periods, you are permitted to talk quietly with your classmates to share ideas and gather input.
  6. Cell Phones.
I will take them the first time I see or hear them. This is your only warning.
  7. Food, Drinks, and Gum.
    NO.
  8. Time Management.
You will need to utilize self-discipline during work sessions and keep yourself on task. Failure to use your time wisely will result in grading penalties in addition to disciplinary measures. If you did not complete at least 75% of your assignment in class, it will not be accepted for grading.
  9. Cleaning Up.
Since this is a studio environment, we should all work together to clean-up, however, you are responsible for cleaning-up and putting away any and all materials you use. If you do not clean-up after yourself, your grade will reflect this lack of effort. I will announce when it is time to clean-up. If you wait until the last minute, I will not give you a pass.
  10. Snooping.
There is no need to open any cabinet or drawer on your own. All of the supplies you need will be prepared for you to use. If you need something additional, make sure to ask.
  11. Cheating.
You may never submit any other person’s artwork as your own. No one should touch your artwork or “help” by doing it for you.

Folders and Sketchbooks! You will be provided with a sketchbook and folder for this course. These are essential items. There will be numerous sketchbook assignments throughout the year. Some will be taking place in class, while others are for homework. Note taking will also be done in your sketchbook. All graded materials, worksheets, and handouts should be kept in your folder. Your folder will be sent home as a progress report mid-way though each marking period to be reviewed and signed by your parent/guardian. DO NOT LOOSE THESE ITEMS!

Uniforms/Dress-Code. You must be following proper dress-code while in the art room. Sometimes there may be exceptions to this policy, for example, we may need to roll-up our sleeves while working with clay, however, you must return to proper dress-code before leaving the room. Smocks and aprons are available and should be worn to protect your clothing.

Grading

A grading rubric will be given with each major assignment. At least one major non-subjective assignment will be given each marking period, such as a quiz, test, or essay. Also, a class participation grade will be given each quarter.

Note: If you are having a difficult time understanding or keeping up with this course, please see Miss Spencer as soon as possible. Schedules permitting, you will be able to come into the art room during study halls or after school to have more time to work on an assignment or to receive one-on-one instruction.
